Hello Community Members,

As a non-profit organization we have seen the rise in homelessness, especially after Covid, and an influx of calls and emails we receive from desperate individuals who unfortunately do not qualify for our services. I am sure you all have encountered the same, and many of our organizations have a very small pool of alternative organizations to refer these individuals to.

With the rise in homelessness, unfortunately, there is also a rise in crime, and the streets are becoming far more unsafe. As we well know desperation breeds desperate acts, and we are closely aware of numerous separate instances of violence perpetrated not only on property but on people we know. Our local businesses seem to have no recourse or safety, our organizations are left at loose ends with those we cannot help, and often times the police departments have no idea of the different resources available to the homeless they encounter when they are inevitably called out to one incident or another.

Something that our Executive Assistant, Iria Ephriam, has wanted to do since joining Golden Rainbow in 2022 is bridge that gap between community businesses, non-profit organizations, LVMPD, and NLVPD. Getting us all together in one room where we can ask questions and engage with our local police departments, providing them and each other with resources available, because calling the police and arresting someone is not always the answer. Most of all providing the opportunity to empower each of us with the tools, knowledge, and ability to protect ourselves, businesses, organizations, communities, and each other. It takes communities connected – all of us communicating and working together.
